Plans for 2023 and the future of EGP

January 3, 2023

2022 was a very quite year for Epic Gear Photography and I admit that I put little to no effort into the business. It was a year to focus on putting myself into a better place both financially and mentally, with success on the financial side and the mental side is always a work in progress. There is constantly the internal debate on what to do with the photography business. Do I make the effort and try to make it a worthwhile side project, or do I just shut everything down and sell off most if not all of my equipment? After spending New Years day with my mother visiting some of her friends and a short stop to take in the ocean air, I think I finally made a decision. As of now the plan is for 2023 to be the final year of Epic Gear Photography.

My passion for photography still runs deep, and if I could find a way to turn EGP into a full time endevor and not have my income change for the worse, I'd do it in a heart beat. But sadly, the will not happen without having to struggle for a few years to build a solid client base and reputation. The need for consistant bookings and more than likely a large price increase would be an uphill battle that I just can't put the effort into while still maintaining my full time job that keeps the roof over my head and food in my belly. I can assure you the decision to lay the camera down did not come easy, and the internal debate still rages on in my head, but a decision had to be made.

So what is the plan for 2023?

  • Bookings will remain open for sessions in FL through the entire year with no change to the current price.
  • Some marketing efforts will be made throughout the year to bring in some business.
  • Two trips are planned to go back to WV and spend roughly a week each time. (Spring and Fall)
  • Special events may be planned throughout the year.(More to come)
  • Special requests for sessions that require travel will be considered but you must reach out to me directly for booking.
  • Anyone that currently has a gallery on the website is encourage to get an account and make sure your images are downloaded by the end of the year.
  • Early 2024 all images will be archived for storage, and the website will be shut down.
  • All current operating costs that I have been maintaining without income from the business will be terminated.
  • I say goodbye to one of the best things that happened to me, but also one of the most exhausting/frustrating things as well.

These plans are not set in stone, but more like on a dry-erase board. They could change depending on how the year goes. If  business would start to pick up then the decsion would need to be made to keep things going. We will just have to see where the future takes us.

As always I can't thank those who have supported EGP over the years, you all mean the world to me and I consider you all a part of my family even if we're a little dysfunctional. I hope all of you have an amazing year and be on the lookout for updates on my availability and travel dates.

Much love,

Shane
